Danielsen, Loeffler win contest

Dave Danielsen of Duluth and Dan Loeffler of Woodbury, Minn., teamed to win the seventh annual Grand Slam Walleye Contest, held Saturday and Sunday on the St. Louis River in Duluth. Danielsen and Loeffler finished with seven walleyes that weighed a total of 31.75 pounds to edge Duluth’s Andrew Frielund and partner Autum Carlson of Two Harbors, who took second with 30.57 pounds. Frielund and Carlson led by 3/10ths of a pound after Saturday’s fishing.

Danielsen and Loeffler won a total of $1,968. Frielund and Carlson won $1,640. Both teams said they caught their fish by trolling crankbaits in 7 to 14 feet of water.

A total of 41 two-person teams took part in the contest. A total of 202 walleyes weighing a total of 591 pounds were caught in the contest. All were released alive, said tournament director Tom Pfister. Weigh-in was at the Spirit Lake Marina.

The largest fish caught in the contest, an 8.13-pound walleye, was taken by Frielund and Carlson on Saturday. A total of $7,870 was paid out in the contest, according to organizers.

Very nice fish and a lot of MMTS alumni in that list.  Very impressive guys.  Keep up the great fishing.

I haven't seen Twitch work for walleyes yet, but he may have a few tricks.  I think he kept his explosives permit current.
