Doug Laurent and his son, Saint, pulled in more than half their total catch weight with a single walleye weighing 6.92 pounds, according to tournament organizers. The Laurents’ total weight of 12.05 pounds for six walleyes topped the field by less than one pound. Frank Amendola Jr. and Kevin Amendola of Duluth finished second with 11.26 pounds of walleyes.
The Laurents’ 6.92 pound walleye was also the day’s biggest fish. In all, 165 two-person teams fished the one-day event on Island Lake.
All proceeds from the event go to fight Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The tournament is hosted by former professional athletes Kent Hrbek, Darby Hendrickson and Jim Johnson.
